Young Booze Busters

Native Americans

Native Americans had alcohol introduced to them by European explorers. The Native Americans traded jewellery and animal skins for alcohol.

The Native Americans called alcohol ‘fire water‘, because when they drank it, it burned their throat and the lining of their stomach.

Many Native Americans became unwell or addicted to alcohol. As a result traders were able to take advantage of this by stealing their land, food, animals and furs.
